Growth and development in Gables NSW
Gables takes its name from a dairy farm once owned by Robert Hurrell, later split into Blue Gables and Red Gables, which is where Red Gables Road comes from. The land was rezoned for housing as the Box Hill North precinct in 2015, the estate was launched the same year, and Stockland took over the remaining land in 2020. Gables became its own suburb on 17 July 2020, drawn mostly from Box Hill with a smaller part from Maraylya.
The farm behind the name
The suburb is named after the Blue Gables and Red Gables portions of a former dairy farm, remembered today in Red Gables Road.
Rezoning
The Hills LEP amendment for the Box Hill North precinct, published in February 2015, moved the land from rural transition zoning to residential, recreation and local centre zones.
A new suburb name
Gables was gazetted on 17 July 2020. Most of it was previously Box Hill, with a northern piece from Maraylya.
The lake and town centre
The plan centres on a four hectare lake, and a Stockland town centre anchored by a supermarket now sits on Lakefront Crescent.
Schools and transport
Santa Sophia Catholic College, a Kindergarten to Year 12 school, opened its permanent campus for 2022. Buses run to Rouse Hill and Riverstone stations.
